Eager Reader s a voluntary reading program sponsored by the PTA, designed to encourage students to read for their enjoyment outside of school. By giving a few small prizes along the way, students and parents will both have a fun incentive to participate and connect through the shared pleasure of reading. To earn prizes students must reach their goal by the end of the month. New this year, all reading minutes must be recorded online and approved by parents in order for the minutes to count. Students or their parents can enter reading minutes. Instructions on how to enter minutes online will be sent home soon!

The Challenger PTA Science Fair & STEM Night is held each year in the spring, and all students are invited to participate by entering a science project.

Challenger's PTA is sponsoring a program to encourage students to write during the summer. The more they write the more prizes they earn. Journal entries must follow the directions to qualify for prizes. Please print the required sheets, glue them into a new or used journal, and start writing. Enjoy writing all summer.

Join us for our Reflections reception. Reflections is a National PTA Student Art Contest. Students can submit original work of art created by 100% by themselves. Categories: visual art, literature, music, dance choreography, video, and photography.

The customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group.

The PTA sponsors this international cultural event. The goal of the festival is to encourage learning about our global society and educate others about our individual heritage. Challenger families showcase their cultures through music, dance, crafts, food samples, artifacts and displays.

Field Day is an event presented by Mr. Mokin in the PE Department in June. Field Day requires a lot of volunteers, so the PTA assists by soliciting volunteers and being available day of event. Field Day involves the students going out on the playground and field area to participate in various fun games including tug of war, soccer, water games, etc. before school gets out.

Volunteers assist in setting up events, running each of the stations, and clean up. All events can be managed by one adult or teenager, unless specified otherwise. Challenger has all the supplies and equipment, unless specified otherwise.

The Gift A Book program celebrates your student’s birthday by donating a new book to Challenger’s library. Our chairperson works with the librarian to send home a Gift A Book invitation form during your student’s birth month. You select a purchase price & send in your payment, your student selects a book, and a bookplate is placed on the inside front page to acknowledge your gift honoring your student. Additionally, your student gets to be the first to check out that book.

The PTA provides funding for classroom resources through “Comet Cash” and grants. Comet Cash is money given directly to all teachers (for their individual use) and other staff members to be used for classroom and building needs not normally met by the school or district budget. Teacher grants are awarded to applicants who need extraordinary funding for specific needs. Examples of items purchased with Comet Cash and Teacher Grants include:

• Books - Accelerated Reader; McGraw Hill Leveled Reader; Literary Circle; etc.
• Audio-Visual (AV) Equipment for Classroom Use, including ActivBoard
• Music materials including assorted musical instruments and supplies

We are excited to be offering prepackaged school supplies from School Toolbox again this year. All school supplies will be shipped directly to your doorstep.
